FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is based on the scientific fact that your body is a self-regulating, self-healing organism. These important functions are controlled by the brain, spinal cord, and all the nerves of the body. The skull protects the delicate tissues of the brain. The moving bones of the spine and skull protect the vulnerable communication pathways of the brain, spinal cord and nerve roots. If the nervous system is impaired, it can cause malfunction of the tissue and organs throughout the body. Chiropractic doctors call this the Vertebral Subluxation Complex. Vertebral, meaning the bones of the spine. Subluxation, meaning the less than a total dislocation, and Complex, meaning consisting of more than one part.
Chiropractic procedures are extremely safe and effective. Our chiropractors work on bodies in all phases of life from newborns one day old to the elderly. The practitioners at Back in Balance Chiropractic and Massage also assess and perform corrections for Cranial (skull) Subluxations. This enhances optimal expression of the nervous system even further. Chiropractic is the science of locating offending spinal structures, the art of reducing their impact to the nervous system, and a philosophy of natural health care based on your inborn potential to be healthy.
Do I Need A Referral?
No. While most of our patients come in from referrals from Behavioural Optometrists, Occupational Therapists, Sound Therapists, Pediatric Physiotherapists, and Special Needs Teachers, you do not need a referral for Chiropractic care. Our clinic however has been built largely by word of mouth referrals.
Will I Need X-rays?
Depending on what your patient history reveals, you may or may not require x-rays. If your practitioner recommends an x-ray, you can be referred to the radiology centre of your choice. Provided you have a current Medicare card (ie you are an Australian citizen), your spinal x-rays can be bulk-billed. Peripheral x-rays (eg., knees, wrists) if recommended by a Chiropractor cannot be bulk-billed.
Should I Bring My Child to see a Doctor of Chiropractic?
Absolutely! Chiropractic is tailored to newborn, toddlers & young children with very little pressure being applied during adjustments. Dr Lynne Truon, Dr Jana Kyte & Dr Lisa Karakochuck both have 2 children each - their children have been adjusted regularly from birth.

Are Your Services Covered By Private Health Funds?
Chiropractic care is covered by most private health fund policies (MBF, NIB, Medibank). The amount you can claim depends on the fund and the type of cover you have. Please check your policy for further information. At Back in Balance Chiropractic and Massage we provide HICAPS which means you can swipe your private health fund card on the spot and you just pay the difference.
Are Your Services Covered By Medicare?
The simple answer is ‘No’. However, if you or your child has been approved by your GP for the ‘Enhanced Primary Care Program’ then you are able to be reimbursed a portion of our treatment fee through Medicare for up to five sessions. In this case you will be asked to pay for the consultation in full and then be reimbursed through Medicare.
